Freshman Timeline
Begin with the end in mind! Develop good study habits. Every grade matters- work hard and if you feel like you are getting behind, talk to your teacher or counselor.
When you complete and pass the required classes to graduate as a Maury County student, you will meet the requirements for most colleges. Strive for honors classes to strengthen your college and scholarship applications.
Begin to identify your interests – likes and dislikes- and think about careers you would enjoy. Take an interest inventory at College for TN Website or Major Clarity
Talk to others about their careers, education and training and begin to look for more career information.
Get involved – join clubs, play a sport, participate in community service. o Create a portfolio to keep your report cards, lists of awards, honors, school and community activities, volunteer work, employment experience. Add to this every year.
Begin to explore schools-technical schools, 2 year schools, 4 year schools and the military. Compare degrees offered, salary projections, education required, etc.
Think about spending your summer either working a part-time job or participating in summer enrichment programs, volunteering, etc.
